Luzenac's Graz offices recognised for their outstanding achievement in environmental management

In 2004, Luzenac Naintsch's Graz offices in Austria won the Ecoprofit® award for their outstanding achievement in the realm of environmental management.

ÖKOPROFIT® (ECOPROFIT), "ECOlogical PROject For Integrated Environmental Technology", is a programme for sustainable economic development established by the Environment Department of the City of Graz, Austria, in 1991. ÖKOPROFIT® is a win-win-model, using integrated environmental technologies to strengthen businesses economically whilst improving the local environment. Companies are encouraged to cut their costs through investments in operational environmental protection and to increase their eco-efficiency. The programme also fosters the creation of networking opportunities and synergies between businesses, local authorities and environmental consultants.

Amongst others, Ecoprofit organises a series of subsidized workshops, which are run jointly by the Environment Department of the City of Graz, and the environmental consultancy firm, Stenum, over the course of one year.

Luzenac Naintsch Graz adopted the Ecoprofit Project Plan as part of its continuous improvement process. The Project Plan involved an initial in-depth analysis of the Graz offices, which showed a potential for improvement in a number of areas such as the management of waste, water, hazardous substances, energy and transportation, as well as in the fields of law, environmental policy, environmental programmes and marketing.

The company's environmental successes during the past year clearly convinced the committee that Luzenac Naintsch Graz were the deserved winners of the award.
