Luzenac talcs for Paper
Luzenac supplies the pulp, paper and board industry with talc for use as a pitch control agent and a runnability aid, a coating pigment in both rotogravure and offset, and a functional filler. In certain speciality papers, e.g. coloured papers, labels, Luzenac talcs' special properties help to improve quality and productivity. Gravure
- Luzenac fillers and coating pigments significantly improve quality in coated and supercalendered paper for the rotogravure printing process.
- Luzenac Helicoat® (Heliocote® in the US) talc improves printing press runnability by eliminating core bursts and crepe wrinkles.
- Luzenac's gravure grades lower paper surface friction and strengthen resistance to breaks during reel changes, thereby significantly improving productivity at the printers.
- By maximising ink transfer, Luzenac's gravure talcs bring better image quality in the halftone area and reduce missing dots.
- The print benefits also allow the increased usage of high brightness pigments including calcium carbonate in coating formulations in paper mills operating under alkaline conditions.
- The excellent runnability of our gravure coating talcs match the increasing production speeds at LWC plants. They give low high shear viscosity, allowing higher solids and improved fiber coverage, especially important for catalogues and other ULWC papers.

Offset coating
- Luzenac's Lithocoat® products improve the quality of the printed surface by overcoming ink scuff encountered with coated papers containing high levels of calcium carbonate.
- Lithocoat® controls the ink drying speed, thereby decreasing print mottle and improving print opacity.
- In matt and/or silk paper production, Luzenac can tailor its products to provide the desired matt and/or dull effects essential for reader comfort and quality feel.
- Luzenac talcs provide a silky feel to the matt paper, thereby enhancing reader comfort and touch.

Mistron® for pitch and stickies control and improved runnability
- Mistron® irreversibly adsorbs organics, preventing their agglomeration, regardless of changes in process temperature or pH.
- Mistron® improves plant productivity, reducing specific energy demand and plant discharge.
- Luzenac's cationic Mistron® grades significantly reduce COD levels in the effluent discharge.
- Mistron® significantly improves paper machine and printing press runnability while improving paper quality.
- Mistron® reduces stickies deposits in recycled paper production and keeps the process 'clean', resulting in superior paper quality.
- Mistron® enables the amount of chemicals to be reduced on paper machines, thus improving cost-effectiveness.
- As natural, inert, talc-based minerals, Luzenac's Mistron® grades bring environment-friendly benefits to the paper process.
- Frequent systems analysis to monitor pitch and stickies levels in the process is part of the Luzenac customer service commitment.

Speciality applications
- Luzenac talcs are effective extenders, improving TiO2 retention and performance.
- In LWC and other coated bases, Luzenac talcs give good coating hold-out.
- As filler, they accelerate water drainage in the paper machine wet-end and impart good cross-sectional strength to paper.
- Luzenac talcs also reduce the risk of white pitch deposits in the coated recycled paper.
- Luzenac talcs' oleophilic properties mean lower dye demand and improved colour intensity.
- Talc's softness imparts good folding properties to paper board, making the sheet less abrasive on cutters and other converting equipment. This is equally important for labels and self-copy paper.
